Jim Bastian is a partner with the law firm Shulman Hodges & Bastian LLP, based in Irvine. Jim heads the Firm’s Bankruptcy and Reorganization practice area and serves as the Firm’s Director of Marketing. He is Peer Review rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating an attorney can achieve for both ethical standards and legal ability. Jim has also been chosen as a Super Lawyer by the Thomson Reuters lawyer rating service.
Jim joined the Firm in 1995 after serving as a judicial law clerk for one year to the Honorable Kathleen Thompson, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Central District of California. Jim received a B.A. in Political Science from UCLA in 1991 and his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in 1994. Jim is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Orange County Bar Association, Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section and the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum where he served as its youngest ever President in 2000-2001.
Jim has long been committed to community service dating back to when he received the Chancellor’s Service Award while an undergraduate at UCLA. Currently, he is the Golf Committtee Chair and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mission Hospital Foundation, a board member of his local Rotary Club where he served as President in 2007 – 2008, is past President of the Bell Tower Foundation, is a member of his church’s Finance Committee and has served as a youth sports coach for over twenty five years. Mr. Bastian is also active in helping to raise money for numerous charitable organizations, including Education for the Children, Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, The Public Law Center and other organizations.
Jim lives in Coto de Caza with his wife. He has three children Caroline, Katherine, and John.
