A parent of a Member can volunteer to be the Class Coordinator. Do you have the time and a talent that would benefit our organization?

We love our Class Coordinators!

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Lion's Heart Class Coordinator. Review the information below and if you would like to pursue this volunteer position, please check the box "Interested in Becoming a Class Coordinator" during the new Member enrollment process, or contact the Chapter President. If the group has a minimum of three Members and there is no Class Coordinator already assigned for this group, your information will then be sent to the Chapter President who will provide you with further instructions to take the online course and take the necessary background check. Currently, only parents of Members are Class Coordinators.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is a Class Coordinator (CC)? A Lion’s Heart Class Coordinator (CC) is an adult who coordinates and is responsible for one group of Lion’s Heart Members. Each group has as few as three Members and up to 20 Members of the same gender in the same grade. The Chapter President forms the groups on a first-come, first-serve basis. The CC does not form the group nor accepts new Members into the group. The Chapter President performs this function.

  2. What does a Class Coordinator (CC) do? Each CC will have online access to their group’s most current roster. The CC will set up a meeting schedule for the year. He/she will also facilitate the officer election. The CC attends every meeting (usually 8 meetings in a year; usually held on a Sunday afternoon/evening – you and your group decide), and some of the group’s volunteer activities. Each CC records the attendance for each meeting, and posts the approved meeting minutes and photos of their Members on the website. The CC uses an online group email system to communicate with their group. The CC is not responsible for bringing service ideas to the group, as it should be Member-driven.

  3. What is the commitment? A new CC is obligated to one year at the position, but almost every CC returns year after year. We even have a few CC who are responsible for two groups! In addition to the initial one-hour online training course prior to starting, the time commitment varies but it could be as little as one hour a month. Every CC should be comfortable with using a computer, and thoroughly and carefully read/respond to emails quickly. April and May are the busiest months for the CC due to the end-of-year/beginning-of-year deadlines and procedures.

  4. What are the requirements to become a Class Coordinator (CC)? Each new CC must take an online training class (takes approximately one hour at your own pace) within a two week deadline, submit to a criminal background check, and abide by the Lion’s Heart Minor Protection Policy. The CC does not incur any costs. Although it’s great to have other parents help you, there can only be one Class Coordinator for each group: sorry, no Co-Class Coordinators. All new CC will receive a Lion's Heart tee shirt.

  5. How do the Class Coordinators and the Members get service ideas? It is ultimately the responsibility of the Members to get ideas from television, the newspaper, their school, their parents, website searches, or discussions at their meetings. In addition, when Lion’s Heart receives requests from non-profit organizations for our Members to help at events or with projects, we have a Volunteer Outreach Manager who sends out emails to our Members and posts the opportunities on the chapters’ calendars.
